THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR KADUNA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL AND VICE CHAIRMAN NIGERIAN FILM FESTIVALS ASSOCIATION AUDU KASHIM ISRAEL FELICITATES WITH CHRISTIAN FAITHFUL AT CHRISTMAS
"CHRISTMAS A TIME TO BE HOPEFUL, JOYFUL AND NEVER GIVE UP"
Dear Friends, Christmas is that time again where Christians are reminded not to give up but be hopeful that Christ is here with us.
Christmas is a Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. The word "Christmas" is a combination of the words "Christ" and "mass". "Mass" is a term that refers to the Lord's Supper, which was traditionally concluded in Latin with the words ite, missa est, meaning "go, it is dismissed". The earlier term Yule may have derived from the Germanic jōl or the Anglo-Saxon geōl, which referred to the feast of the winter solstice. The corresponding terms in other languages—Navidad in Spanish, Natale in Italian, Noël in French—all probably denote nativity. The German word Weihnachten denotes “hallowed night.” Since the early 20th century, Christmas has also been a secular family holiday, observed by Christians and non-Christians alike, devoid of Christian elements, and marked by an increasingly elaborate exchange of gifts. In this secular Christmas celebration, a mythical figure named Santa Claus plays the pivotal role. People usually make the mistake of pronouncing "Christmas" as "Xmas" Christ cannot be shortened as "X".
The essence of Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and the gift of love, hope, and joy that he brought to the world: Christmas is a time to remember God's love and compassion, and to give thanks for the gift of Jesus. Jesus came to Earth to offer forgiveness and eternal life to all who believe in him. Christmas signifies hope, light, and the fulfillment of God's promise of salvation. The spirit of Christmas is in the thoughtfulness and togetherness of the season. Christmas is a time to forgive, take stock of what's important, and become better versions of ourselves.
As we celebrate this year's Christmas let us be hopeful, joyful and never give up on whatever we are going through, it's a stage that will surely come to pass.
In this very important Christian festival celebration let us remember the sick, poor, less privileged, orphans and those who have nothing to celebrate, this is a time to show love with a fraternal heart and kindness.
I urge the government at all levels to pay more attention to suffering citizens and make life easy for the public most especially the daily high cost of living and in some parts of the country security challenges. For the public figures, celebrities and Nollywood practitioners this celebration reminds you to continue to be role models most especially to those that look up to you, whatever content or movie we put out there it should bring good moral lessons, love and empathy. Let us continue to be ambassadors of peace and love.
This is to remind us that the 8th Kaduna international film festival call for entries is now open and a free waiver is available from 25th December 2024 to 3rd January 2025 on filmfreeway, in the spirit of the yuletide season.
"I wish us all a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year ahead".
Audu Kashim Israel
Executive director Kaduna international film festival and Vice chairman Nigerian film festivals Association
